April 23, 2013, Meeting
Plying Techniques
April 23, 2013, 7:30 pm
Wolbach
Farm
18 Wolbach Rd., Sudbury, MA
We will learn chain (also called Navajo plying),
plying the Andean bracelet technique, plying from a center pull ball, and
plying for cabled yarns. Each technique will be demonstrated and tried out with
questions answered and help supplied!
You will need to do some advance preparation for
this meeting. Bring two bobbins of medium size singles, a third bobbin to ply
onto, two toilet paper tubes (or two more bobbins, if you have that many), a
lazy kate, a niddy noddy and a loosely prewound center pull ball of singles, if
possible. A ball winder will be available for those who need it. The singles
should have been spun a week or so in advance of the meeting, so that they have
a chance to relax.
One of the bobbins of singles
should contain enough to try the chain, Andean, and from the ball techniques.
Each of these techniques require only one ply. Four sets of singles are needed
to try cabling.
