Wednesday, October 28, 2009, Meeting
7:30 pm, Wolbach Farm
18 Wolbach Rd., Sudbury, MA
Our October speaker will be Linda Scharf, the
creator of the virtual Yarn Museum. Linda will talk about the yarn museum
and her experience with art yarn. She will describe and demonstrate the art
yarn process including selection of materials, preparation and spinning. Linda
describes her feelings about handspun yarn in the following way:
Every yarn is an experiment and an exploration…..
My hope is that the yarn whispers to you and suggests what it wants to be, and
that you whisper something back.
Linda hopes that BASD members will come with
spindles and/or wheels to try some of her techniques. Hopefully we will all
hear our handspun yarn whispering to us!
Get Ready for our Fiber
Exchange
Bring 4 oz. of at least 50% wool dyed in at least 2
colors (purchased or dyed yourself) to the October meeting. The fibers will be
numbered, put in a non-see-through bag for a true grab bag. The fibers need to
be spun and brought in for the January 27th meeting (with a snow date of the
February 10th meeting). The spun yarn will be grab-bagged a second time and
made into something for return to the original fiber owner at the May 26th
potluck.
